Modern resin composite and ceramic fillings allow us to repair teeth in a way that looks natural, feels comfortable, and preserves more of your healthy tooth structure. At Collingwood Dental Practice, we use advanced digital scanning and same-day CEREC technology to deliver long-lasting, aesthetic restorations tailored to your smile.
Both options are metal-free and blend beautifully with natural teeth, but they serve different purposes.
Resin fillings are ideal for small cavities and minor repairs. They bond directly to the tooth, allowing us to be conservative and preserve more enamel.
They look great, but resin isn’t as strong as ceramic, especially for back teeth that handle heavy chewing forces.
Ceramic restorations are custom-made using digital scans and milled on-site with CEREC same-day technology. They are far stronger than resin and help reinforce teeth with large or failing fillings.
Ceramic doesn’t just fill the space; it actually supports the tooth structure, reducing the risk of future fractures.

If a tooth has become structurally weak, simply placing another small filling may not stop future fractures. A ceramic restoration strengthens the tooth and reduces the risk of future major damage.
Traditionally, ceramic restorations required two appointments and a temporary crown. Now, with our in-house 3D scanner and milling unit, we can design and fit many ceramic inlays, onlays, and crowns in just one visit.
